Conclusion: Personal Reflections on Tech in Theatre
Although I didn’t physically attend the expo hall, this research felt like a journey through the best of USITT 2026. I saw how my interests overlapped with real industry innovations in lighting, audio, and fabrication. Exploring concepts like high CRI and even niche topics like low-pressure sodium expanded my understanding of how lighting shapes storytelling. In audio, applying lavalier mic techniques to my D&D setup showed me how professional solutions can scale down to everyday problems. On the fabrication side, I saw how closely theatre tech aligns with the maker world, blending high-tech tools with hands-on craft.
Across all areas, the common goal is creating immersive storytelling. Technology supports the artistic vision rather than existing for its own sake. This is a perspective I want to carry into my own projects. Structuring the assignment around my personal interests kept me engaged and led to meaningful insights. It even felt like attending the conference. I hope to experience USITT in person someday, but for now, this research has given me plenty of ideas to explore!
Afterword This was an actual school assignment this time! I decided to put my usual amount of effort for bonus papers, so hopefully you enjoyed the brief departure into the tech theater side of my life. I usually say something inspiring here, so in the wonderful words of the 3d printing youtuberIvan Miranda, “And now please go and…
MAKE SOMETHING!!!”
