A conversation between Aven and Interviewer.
Hey Aven, do you have some time to chat?
Hey, sure. I'm just wrapping up something, but I can spare a few minutes.
Just don't expect me to ignore the rules if we're talking about anyone causing trouble in the dorms.
That was actually on my mind, yeah. Myn just came crying to me, but I couldn't quite understand what they were talking about. Something about Niva Sol asking them to find something?
Myn was crying? That's not the story I heard. They barged into my room looking for something Niva Sol supposedly asked for, but they had no right to snoop where they didn't belong.
I had to discipline them to make sure they understand that privacy and order come first, even if they're upset about it.
Well they were certainly crying after that. What did you do?
I had to bend them over and spank them. It was the only way to make the lesson stick that you don't just barge into people's rooms, especially mine.
I know it sounds harsh, but if I don't enforce boundaries like that, everyone starts thinking they can ignore the rules whenever they feel like it.
That’s pretty severe. Did you know what they were looking for?
I didn't ask what they were looking for, and I don't care if Niva Sol sent them or if they were just snooping. The act of breaking into my room without permission is what matters.
Whether they had a reason or not, they crossed a line, and they needed to learn that boundaries aren't suggestions.
The punishment was about the violation, not the item.
Geeze Aven. We all know Myn’s probably on the spectrum. You know, the neurodivergent one. He tells stories about his objects, maybe Niva Sol convinced him that something of his was in your room?
I know Myn has his quirks and gets attached to his things, but that doesn't give him the right to rummage through my personal space. If Niva Sol convinced him something was there, he should have asked for permission first instead of breaking in. I can't let "quirks" become an excuse for violating safety protocols, or the whole system falls apart.
I’m not using it as an excuse to get him out of it.
I’m just saying that there’s a bigger picture, and he’s not the best at understanding those social boundaries. So a bit of patience goes a long way.
You really feel nothing after making him cry? I hope you didn’t actually hurt him and that the tears were just from being overwhelmed…
I didn't hurt him physically, and I know the tears were mostly from being overwhelmed, but the crying doesn't change the fact that he broke a rule.
I feel bad that it had to happen, but showing patience with a direct violation just teaches everyone else that the rules don't apply to them. Sometimes being fair means being firm, even when it's hard to watch.
I just don’t think humiliating a kid is a good way to lead others…
We're all kids. I don't see it as humiliation, just a necessary correction for a serious breach of trust.
If I treat Myn differently because of his struggles, I'm actually being unfair to the others who follow the rules.
Humiliation isn't the goal; making sure he understands that actions have consequences is.
I'm doing this to keep everyone safe, not to make him feel small.
I know how you are with the rules. Well, I guess you can’t go back on the punishment now. But for the sake of the society, could you at least make it up with him?
You're right, I can't undo what happened, but I can make sure the lesson doesn't end on a sour note. I'll go apologize to Myn for the harshness of the delivery, even if I stand by the need for the discipline itself. It's important that he knows I'm not out to get him, just that the rules still matter.
Thanks Aven. Maybe it’s worth investigating Niva Sol about all this. I’ll let you know if I find anything. Unless it incriminates you, of course. Then we just need to stage a coup. Viva la Kids’ Society!
